How to Check on Your Illinois Medical Card Status

Waiting

I have been asked so many times how to check on your Illinois Medical Card. It’s difficult, because the employees of the state are very over-worked, and frankly, understaffed (see Illinois budget crisis).

When someone submits their application, there is no way of tracking it. Magically, you will get your card in the mail or a deficiency letter mailed or emailed to you. It is taking 40-45 days.

There is another way, simply email the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH).

Remember, if it has not been 45 days, I would advise NOT to email IDPH.

Here’s how to do it:

Email IDPH at: dph.medicalcannabis@illinois.gov

Subject line of your email please write: Status Inquiry for (insert first and last name and date of birth).

Body of email to IDPH:

To whom it may concern:

I am inquiring on the status of my application submitted on or around ______.

I can be reached at: (insert email address and phone number).

Sincerely,
(Patient name)

Typically IDPH has been very good at responding within 3-5 days. Since IDPH has been requesting at that all inquiries be done in writing- this has been the quickest and most effective way to get a response. If the patient inquires before 45 days, IDPH will tell them to check back after 45 days, or they will respond with one of the reasons listed below.

  • IDPH has not received the application (you will need to either talk to whoever submitted your application or contact us if we helped with your application)**
  • The patient ID cards have been mailed, expect them in 7-14 days, or
  • Your application was deficient because of the reasons listed below…

** If Innovative Express Care helped you with your application, please contact MMJ@innovativeexpresscare.com If you were one of those who submitted with us in the last 3 months and have been told by IDPH that your application has not been received (but your MD certification has been received) please email MMJ@innovativeexpresscare.com and let us know your name, date of birth, and the way you paid for the application fee.

I hope this helps! Contact us via email (best way) or via phone (below).
